Unlike many other self storage companies we are members of The Self Storage Association www.ssauk.com and offer full transparency and have included a copy of our License Agreement on our website. We will ask you to sign this agreement once you have read through it and decided what type of insurance cover works best for you.
There are two options - our specially designed policy for “your store” at The Wood Yard or cover from you own home insurance policy (we will need to have sight of a copy of your policy). When you do decide to sign up we will of course ask you to provide contact and payment details. We will ask for an initial deposit (fully refundable on termination of the policy) together with a month’s rental in advance. The whole process is extremely simple and within hours you can be enjoying less clutter or more space at “your home” for other uses. Call or visit us at The Wood Yard and ask for either Becky or Andrew. |
Payment & Charges
Please note that fees are charged per calendar month, not per week. This means that you get an extra few days storage per month. We ask you to pay the first month in advance, we invoice you monthly in advance and expect payment to clear before the period commences, similar to line rental on your phone bill. Late payment charges may apply (typically £10 or 10% of the outstanding amount).
When you sign the license agreement you are confirming that the goods to be stored in your self storage container belong only to you or your family or the business which you either own or who employs you.

SecurityYou must remember to secure your self storage container i.e. lock it at all times. Whilst we do daily walk rounds, it is not our responsibility to secure your self storgage container.

Dangerous Goods
You must not store anything dangerous, hazardous or combustible or keep any animals or insects (alive or dead) in your self storage container. If you’re storing any engines, you cannot store fuel for these in your self storage container for obvious reasons.

Contents Insurance
The contents of EVERY storage unit must be insured - there are two options:
Option 1: Insure via The Wood Yard. This is “a new for old” insurance policy, specifically designed for the storage industry and approved by the Self Storage Association. Please contact us for further information. |
Option 2: Check whether your home contents insurance covers you for goods in storage. If so, we will need a confirmation letter from your insurance provider |
As mentioned previously, insurance is a must and there are two choices ours or yours. We do not seek to sell insurance, as required by the Self-Storage Association, we are only extending our cover to protect your goods whilst they are with us. Our price is £2.50 per calendar month for every £1000 of goods (replacement value) stored in your container.
If you are insuring your goods all we need is a copy of your policy and a letter / email from your insurer stating that they are happy for your existing policy to cover your goods at our site. Please note, we will ask you for an updated policy at the previous ones’ expiry.
