Flooring Options
Here at The Wood Yard we’ve ben supplying timber for flooring for decades!
The traditional timber Solid Floor is a good insulator, has a natural look and offers good acoustic properties and warmth which is sometimes lacking in laminated flooring. Here at The Wood Yard we stock Redwood PTG. Redwood offers durability and lends itself to a wider range of finishes than Whitewood which is aimed at the commodity end of the market (it is lower in value and quality - thinner boards). Engineered Floors are increasingly popular and used with the correct underlay can offer better acoustic and thermal properties than laminates. Prime offers the least number of (and smallest) knots and is therefore priced at a premium. As we go down the list the prices drop, but larger and more frequent knots are permitted within the grading rules. |
In addition to the grades available there are different finishes too; Unfinished, whilst sanded, is not coated or treated whereas other pre-finished boards can be: Brushed & Unfinished, Matt Lacquered, Brushed & Matt Lacquered Oiled, Brushed & Oiled, Brushed Handscraped & Oiled, Smoked.
Lacquer sits on the top layer of the floor thereby resisting spills and offering easier maintenance. UV and Oiled boards fill the gap in the market between lacquered products and a natural oiled timber surface. These are good for high traffic areas. There are so many different options available it is certainly worth coming and looking at the range of different samples (in varying finishes) to help you make up your mind! Samples are available either to take away or can be supplied next day. Why don’t you call in and take a look?
P.S. All these options can be bonded, floated or secret nailed to battens, joists and flooring grade plywood. Widths vary but are typically 15mm – 300mm. |
The below pictures show our most popular pre-finished floors. These are available in either oak or walnut and are either 14mm or 21mm thick.
14mm panels have a 3mm real wood veneer, 21mm panels have a thicker 6mm veneer. Whilst the 21mm panels are more expensive than the 14mm alternative, 21mm panels last longer as they can be sanded back more often thereby extending their life. |
The panels are available in 4 different grades;
