PlywoodPlywood can be described as Panels which consist of at least three layers (plies) of thin wood which is bonded together. Each ply is usually orientated at 90 degrees to the next layer to improve strength and reduce the possibility of shrinkage.
Outer layers are called face and back veneers and are graded based on their quality. The intermediate layers are collectively known as the core. Plywood glue is graded for suitability for internal or external use. |
EN 335: 2013 Use Classes for Wood & Wood Based Panels.
A use class is an indication of the environment in which a wood product will typically live. At The Wood Yard we are interested in three use classes;
All Plies are glued / bonded with adhesive – the different types of adhesive dictate the use to which plywood will be suitable for. These range from those suitable for interior uses only, to those which will withstand full exposure for long periods.

BS EN 314-2 Plywood bonding quality.
There are three Categories of bond which determines the type of use which plywood can be used for;
Class 3 bonds are a requirement for plywood to comply with BS EN 636-3. The bonds are largely comparable with what were known as WBP. Please note WBP does not exist anymore and has been consigned to the bin! The above classes are the new categories!
