It has been a particularly strange year for us here, with staff changes and price hikes, but we have done it!!!

We will be closing down for the Christmas break on Thursday 22nd December at 12pm.
We re-open Tuesday 3rd January at 8am to resume business as usual.

]]><![CDATA[Update on timber species supply]]>Wed, 26 Oct 2022 12:23:45 GMThttp://www.thewoodyard.org/news/update-on-timber-species-supplyWhilst the supply of Siberian Larch has stopped since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we at The Wood Yard have been able to supply pre conflict Larch to a variety of Cladding jobs throughout 2022. The picture attached shows a Vertical T&G profile which, untreated, will silver over time. We have continued to offer homegrown Larch throughout 2022 (albeit at higher prices than previously due to the scarcity of the imported Larch) we can also offer suitable alternatives such as

Western Red Cedar
Lignia
Thermawood
Douglas Fir
All these can be machined to different profiles unlike the homegrown options which suit Feather Edge, Wane Edge and Square Edge sections only due their higher moisture content.
Professional versus Trade MDF
Here at The Wood Yard we always try to stock High Density or Professional Medium Density Fibreboard. Whilst Trade / Lightweight MDF is a cheaper alternative, the Professional grade is more dense, flatter and ideal for applications such as Shop Fitting. As we cut many boards to size here, Professional MDF is more stable, offers a smooth finish and makes it easy to paint.

Order placed this morning for 500 pegs and Ben whipped them up and they are all done ready for collection!!! We do keep a small stock of pegs and as you can see it doesn't take our lads long to whip them up!!!!

]]><![CDATA[Larch Pergola]]>Wed, 27 Apr 2022 08:46:23 GMThttp://www.thewoodyard.org/news/larch-pergolaIf you have been keeping an eye on our social media platforms, you will have seen quite a bit of hype about our recent Larch deliveries to the Wirral!!
This was a large job which involved Larch sections so large it had to be cut straight from the log. We often provide materials for jobs like these, so we could not wait to share the images of the finished product with you all!

The horizontal beams of this structure have been left untreated, and will eventually be home to climbing plants and foliage. However, the vertical sections were sanded, and treated with a UV protection weather stain. This will delay the red hues of the Larch fading to the weathered silver colour that untreated Larch turns when exposed to the elements.
We think you will agree this is a beautiful job well done!!!

We stock higher grade panels and when choosing your plywood its worth considering these three important factors;
Face Veneer – our plywood has B/BB grade Hardwood veneers.
Core - the core is Eucalyptus, a solid hardwood which means boards are more stable and ideal for cutting
Glue Line / Bond - our plywoods have a strong Class 2 bond designed for humid conditions, allowing occasional wetting or condensation.
We also stock Marine Plywood which has the best, Class 3 bond which allows for Permanent exposure to the weather or constant wetting.
Whatever application you have, at The Wood Yard we can find the right product for you and potentially avoid costly replacement or delamination.

This should be delivered in the next week or so ready to replace the damage caused by the high winds we are forecast.

Please remember, we stock 24" x 24" and 24" x 18" ready cut, and our glass staff can provide cutting to size Monday to Friday.

Most are shocked at the range of items we have available in store and to order, so here is a run down of some of what we have!!

Fencing and Trellis
On our yard we have a stock of feather Edge and Martley Lap fencing panels. These are available from 6ft x 1ft up to 6ft x 6ft. As well as the panels we have matching feather edge gates, wicket panels, square and diamond trellis, fence posts at 3" x 3" and 4" x 4" at various lengths, fencing rails and half round posts. In store we stock a wide range of nails and screws, drill bits aswell as ironmongery such as handles, locks and hinges. Need treatments for your projects? We also stock a range of paints, treatments, stains and brushes to help you on your way to completion.

Plumbing
Our plumbing range is another surprise for customers. We have waste pipe, copper pipe, PTFE tapes, pipe accessories available in copper and chrome, washing machine hoses, toilet cystern accessories and so much more. Need help? Ask for Kev or Ben for advice.

Beading
One of our most popular ranges is our Cheshire Mouldings beading selection. We have over 100 lines to choose from. As well as general stock, we also order in bulk for some of our regular customers so they always have what they need. To compliment the beading, we also have a range of panel pins and glues. If we do not have what you need, please speak to staff, our lead time on beading is around 1 week and we are more than happy to order in any short falls on stock.

Timber
Venturing back to timber, we supply a large range of rough sawn treated timbers for outside hard wearing projects. In our sheds, we have planed timbers in an array of widths and lengths, as well as CLS for stud work, OSB3 sheeting, Plywoods and MDF sheets. We also stock a range of skirtings and architraves. If our lengths are too long for your needs, our yardsmen will happily cut to your required length and size. Need timber planing? We can also do that!! No job is too small for our dedicated team.

Doors
In store we have our door showroom. LPD is our main supplier of internal and external doors. Garage doors, room dividers, handles, locks and hinges are also available from LPD. If you do not see something you like from their range, we have door accessories in store from other suppliers that you can take straight away. We have brochures available for you to take away and peruse at your leasure. These do not have prices in, but you can drop us an email or give us a call and we will quote you at our earliest convienience! Our oder cut off point for LPD is 1pm Wednesday, which gives us delivery on the following Friday.

Glass
Need glass? We supply a range of thickness', textures and sizes of glass. Our most popular is our horticultural glass, mainly utilised for greenhouses or sheds. We also stock mirror glass, georgian wired, patterned and can order in toughened glass!!! Need a specific size? Not a problem! Ben, our experienced glass man can sort that without a problem! In store we also have a range of putty for glass instalation, and as mentioned before, we have plenty of beadings to help finish those glazing tasks.

Keys
On site we provide a key cutting service. We have a large supply of mortice, yale and padlock keys available. If you are in a rush, feel free to leave your keys whilst you get on with your day, our key cutter will have them ready on your return!

This year the trend has continued and we’ve been able to supply timber for external structures such as loggias, Pergodas and Gazebos. The images below show some examples which we hope you’ll agree add a great deal to the space.
